An Oral History, Part 1

The word ZINE actually comes from the magazine, and in many ways, a zine resembles a magazine. It has a cover, back matter, and pages with a combination of visuals and text. But rather than having photographers and writers in the traditional sense, a ziner does not necessarily generate content in that same way. Generally, they will repurpose old magazines, comics, and even textbooks to create a sort of collage. Other ziners will hand write and draw their own zines. But the end goal is to share their zines by making copies and spreading them, typically with a photocopier.
